History: Home to the Bundjalung people from ancient times, Casino was a central locus for Aboriginal culture and art, a rich history that continues today.
 
 In the middle of the nineteenth century Henry Clay and George Stapleton claimed 30,000 acres of land close to the Richmond River and named it after Monte Cassino in Italy.  Due to a misspelling when registering the town, it has since been known as Casino.
