Casino Greyhound Racing Club

gh2_runnerblackandwhite300Last Friday celebrated the 75th Anniversary of greyhound racing at Casino, and it was great to see some names that have been synonymous with the club over the years getting some of the "spoils" on the day.

Opening up proceedings was the win of Enquisitor who won for former committeeman Greg Hancock. It was second away and railed through down the back to win it's maiden in 23.70. Greg's late father Laurie was also a great stalwart, and an ex president.

gh2_runnerblackandwhite300The well performed Farmer's Image upset some of her fancied rivals when she led all of the way in the Sportingbet stake at Casino last Friday. Jumping out from box two, she held the rails running in the run to the first turn, and was able to get what was a winning break as they went down the back. In the "wash up" the Jan McLean trained galloper ran a personal best time of 23.10 in a two length win.

Much improved sprinter Calamber took out the Westlawn Novice final with another fine railing display. Not the best to begin, she mustered speed after hitting the ground, and just kept sneaking along the fence. She also ran a personal best time of 23.40 in holding out favourite Bralyn Riley in the rush to the line. Robert Cooke trains her, and she is locally bred being by former Casino Cup winner Hot Syrup.

gh2_runnerblackandwhite300The well performed Bacardi Breeze atoned for two recent minor placings when she took out the Casino RSM Free For All last Friday. It was a three way "go" as they went to the back, with the inside runners Bacardi Breeze, Kenstrelle and Pitch Blue Chief going together in a mad dash. Finally, at the top turn, Bacardi Breeze was able to break free from her rivals and race away to win by 6 1/4 lengths. Always at a short quote in betting, she ran a fast 23.12.
She's trained by Beryl and Brian Stephens, who always have their greyhounds in pristine condition. They also scored earlier, with Mya Pixie winning a heat of the Westlawn Finance restricted novice. Appreciating a drop in class, she snuck under Bralyn Riley at the first bend to get the break and scored by two lengths in 23.56.

A slick beginning ensured fastest qualifier Bralyn Riley victory in the rich final of the Rapidvite Maiden series at Casino last Friday. Having drawn wide in box seven, the start was all important, and Bralyn Riley stepped out well to get straight onto the bunny and lead all of the way. The other semi final winner, Beau We Know, made a strong in the middle stages, but he was no match for the winner, who won by seven lengths in a fast 23.17.

He's owned and trained by Brad and Lynne Northfield who tasted success earlier in the day when litter brother Bralyn Terry broke his maiden status. He also led throughout, and ran 27.74 over the 484 metres. The brothers are by "boom" sire Black Enforcer from Brad and Lynne's good stayer Bralyn Mel.

gh2_runnerblackandwhite300Well boxed sprinter Calamber returned to her best form with a solid win in the Buckingham Chuck stake at Casino last Friday. Wearing the pink rug, as is the fashion for the month, she kept a straight line from the boxes, and whilst her opponents jostled inside her, she was able to swoop over at the first turn and grab the lead. Sprinting away, she had enough in hand to win by 1 1/2 lengths in a handy 23.51. She is by former Casino Cup winner Hot Syrup.

It was the second win on the day for local trainer Robert Cooke as earlier Nice Dash had led all of the way in the Westlawn Finance 5th grade. She came out beautifully, and took over at the first bend to run 27.85.

gh2_runnerblackandwhite300On times, little separates the three heat winners of the Blue Paws Super Series that were conducted last Friday. Late Kooringa won the opening heat for Mitch Northfield when he led all of the way to run 27.94. He held off the fast finishing Flaming Grace to score by 3/4 length. The "in form" Pretty Norris then ran 27.95 to win the second run off after kicking well clear in the back straight. Charlie Northfield trains him.

Jeff Smith's Goarder rounded off the heats with a 27.94 victory. He got up on the line to win by a head. The all important box draw will hold the key to this week's final, that, with Blue Paws Bonuses adds up to a neat $5,000.

Tregeagle conditioner Pat Lavis continued his recent run when he landed a double. Peg Rose Hi crossed straight to the lead from box eight and was never headed in winning the Westlawn Free For All in 27.89, whilst Jake Rose Hi came back after being headed to win the Ranvet stake in 23.66. Pat trains these greyhounds for Trevor Thompson who also landed a winner with Albert Rose Hi who squeezed through a narrow gap at the first turn before racing away. He ran 23.33 in winning by four lengths.

Form followers from last week would have landed the Exacta, when Snitcher again relegated Oh My Papa into second place. The Allan Lang trained Snitcher took up the running and on the wire had 6 1/2 lengths to spare clocking 36.25.

Pretty Maliaka also made it two in a row at Casino when she took out the sprint Free For All in hollow fashion. She was an all of the way winner in 23.33 for Frank Hancock.

Alkali gave Ryan Newstead his first winner at Casino in a while when she won the opening maiden in 23.70, while Talahatchi followed up his good form from the Coonamble Carnival to win the Charcoal Inn stake in a fast 23.08.

John Pay seems to land a winner every week he ventures down from the Banana state, and Gemz continued that trend running 23.56, while Pop Northfield maiden finalist Watch Me Burn won the 484 metre maiden in 27.92 for Terry Guymer.

Finally, congratulations to Tyson Barton and all of the team connected with the win of So Seductive in the rich Bold Trease Cup at Sandown last Thursday. Another locally bred greyhound that has made it to the "big time".
