If there is one word to describe hipeastrum it's  flamboyant

However that doesn’t mean they are hard to grow.

Simply keep bulb necks above the soil.

The red trumpeted ones are special but the finely striped variety has an elegance that’s hard to beat.

Fruiting vegetables, like beans, tomatoes, capsicum and sweet corn, have the best flavour if they’re eaten as quickly as possible after harvest; leafy vegetables, such as lettuce, lose water and rapidly become limp, and all vegetables are more nutritious if they are consumed when as fresh as possible.

tomatoesAs the weather warms up we all seem to get the urge to get out and into the garden after the cold winter days. And vegetables are often at the top of the list for spring time garden activity.

Dahlias are very widely hybridised.

You can have then in almost any colour you want.

If you plant your first batch in late winter and another batch every month until Christmas you can have flowers from October to May.

The taller type need staking  but there are smaller growers that are self supporting.
