A new website (Chainofprotection) from the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance aims to dispel misunderstandings about vaccines and provide accurate information.
The website is trying to counter the huge amount of misinformation about vaccination on the internet and in the media.
For example, The Australian Vaccination Network (AVN) was recently exposed by the NSW Health Care Complaints Commission. The AVN is a non profit organisation that provides information about vaccination on its website and elsewhere.
The HCCC ruled that the AVN promoted incorrect and misleading information and quoted selectively from research to suggest vaccination may be dangerous. It stated that it ‘poses a risk to public health and safety’ and may influence the public to make poorly informed decisions about vaccination.
