Depicting a story beyond what is visible to the naked eye will be the focus of “Macro Moments,” the solo exhibition by local Casino professional photographer, Jess George, at Platypus Gallery.
This body of work, spanning 10 years in the making, is an eclectic meets conservative mix of photographs’ featuring prominently black and white beach, forest and rural property macro imagery. Slow the pace of life right down and focus on nature’s beauty captured in all its detail, through Jess’s Canon digital single lens reflex camera.
Studying at Queensland College of Art, Jess George has been a photographer for over 15 years and now specialises in professional wedding and portrait photography. Coming from a creative family Jess has her grandfather to thank for his encouragement and making the use of a camera an enjoyable pastime. Her grandfather brought life to, what is now a passion and made the art of photography not such a daunting experience for her.
Jess’s inspiration comes from the natural environment. “There are so many wonderful shapes and forms wherever you look in nature and everyday life, yet many of them would remain small and inconspicuous to the naked eye. Photographing these objects can really bring them to the forefront of our observation,” Jess elaborated on finding subjects for her shots.
The pieces in this exhibition employ an exquisite technique reserved for highly trained professionals. The composition of each image is well thought out and utilises a fine set of skills that have been practiced over many years in the industry.
“I love being able to capture a moment but then to be able to look beyond the moment and create a piece of art. I believe that anyone can take a photograph but not everyone has the ability to make the photograph speak,” says Jess.
Knowing how to catch people’s eye through this body of work our local artist certainly has a talent for photography. “Macro Moments” at Platypus Gallery, Casino opens Friday, 7 October 2011 and can be viewed 7 days a week.
