The Scary Halloween season is upon us again. While older generations of Australians have not so much been involved in this event the younger generations are gearing up for all of the fun and festivities. This year R.A.R.E (also known as Random Activities and Raging Events) will be running a Halloween Party at the Casino Basketball Stadium.
R.A.R.E is aimed at developing fun and safe activities for young people in the Richmond Valley. The night proves to be one with plenty of Tricks and Treats including a themed thriller dance-off, and traditional Halloween games. "While it all sounds like a great treat," says Mayor Col Sullivan "the aim of the night is a part of Council's Bag of Tricks to stop the scary things that are happening to young people in the Richmond Valley."
"Young people are often painted as the perpetrators of violence" says Nick Colbrelli-Adams, the youth representative on the Casino Neighbourhood Watch Committee and is also a member of Richmond Valley Council's Children's Advisory Committee. "The truth is that young people are also one of the most common victims of violence. Going out on a Saturday night might start out as a 'treat' for many of us but often it is a 'trick'. Young people often don't report what happened to them to the Police too, so it really is a tricky situation".
